Best beaches on Bonaire

Bonaire is not an all-inclusive sunbed island. The best spots are often shore-entry beaches, park roads or shallow lagoons – and best depends on whether you snorkel, travel with kids, or want absolute quiet. This guide is based on BonPlaya community scores and reviews, plus practical factors: access, surge, shade and whether you need a 4x4 or water taxi.

We do not rank purely on Instagram looks. A high score with few reviews still matters, but we explain why a place is listed: water clarity, access, crowds and pitfalls. Scores (1-10) come from real reviews and update when new ratings arrive. No reviews? No fake marketing 9.5.

Use this list as a starting point, then open each beach page for photos, practical info and more reviews. Mix west-coast classics (1000 Steps, Bachelors) with Lac Bay (Sorobon, Lac Cai) and Washington-Slagbaai if you plan a park day. STINAPA Nature Fee is required for snorkelling and diving on the reef.

  1. No Name Beach · Bonaire

Community score 9.0/10 based on 3 reviews

Often the absolute favourite: white sand, clear water, total getaway vibe. Downside: water taxi and no facilities. Bring shade, water and reef-safe sunscreen. Great as one big day out, not a quick stop.

  2. Playa Funchi · Bonaire

Community score 8.3/10 based on 3 reviews

One of the quietest snorkel gems in Washington-Slagbaai: clear water, few people, pure park setting. You pay park entry and face a rough drive. No bar or toilets – excellent water quality.

  3. 1000 Steps · Bonaire

Community score 7.5/10 based on 4 reviews

Iconic west-coast classic. Underwater often rich; above water: stairs (not 1000, still tough going up). Great for snorkel or dive, less for a lazy beach day with lots of gear.

  4. Bachelor’s Beach · Bonaire

Community score 8.0/10 based on 3 reviews

Small, charming and near Belnem. Easy shore entry for snorkel and dive. Little space and shade – perfect for a morning, not a full family setup.

  5. Boka Slagbaai · Bonaire

Community score 7.5/10 based on 4 reviews

History plus snorkelling inside the national park. Worth it if you drive the park loop. Logistics (car, time, heat) are the real cost – plan honestly.

  6. Sorobon Beach · Bonaire

Community score 8.0/10 based on 3 reviews

Lac Bay: shallow, windy, lively. Best for windsurf and kids in shallow water. Not wild west coast – practical and social. Can get busy in the afternoon.

  7. Te Amo Beach · Bonaire

Community score 7.7/10 based on 3 reviews

Handy on arrival or an easy afternoon: sand, snorkelling, food trucks nearby. Busier and more touristy than remote spots – honestly ideal as a first-day beach.

  8. Lac Cai · Bonaire

Community score 7.7/10 based on 3 reviews

North Lac Bay: calmer than Sorobon, shallow, mangroves, sometimes turtles. Local vibe. Sandy track and few facilities; very relaxed if you accept that.

  9. Chachacha Beach · Bonaire

Community score 7.7/10 based on 3 reviews

West coast without the biggest crowds: reef close by, good snorkel or shore dive. Rocky entry – water shoes help. Little shade, still under the radar.

  10. Donkey Beach · Bonaire

Community score 8.0/10 based on 3 reviews

Quiet white sand, less hyped. Nice to chill and light snorkel. Weekend food truck sometimes; weekdays often empty. No wow facilities, good vibe.
