Beaches in Washington-Slagbaai National Park

Washington-Slagbaai is not a quick beach stop. The park is open Tuesday to Sunday (8:00–17:00, last entry 14:30) and closed on Mondays. You pay the Nature Fee by card or online in advance (no cash), drive unpaved roads (STINAPA recommends at least 30 cm ground clearance; scooters and quads are not allowed) and bring water, food and shade yourself: there are no restaurants. The reward: quiet nature and, on the right spots, clear snorkel water far from Kralendijk crowds.

Not every park beach is equal. Boka Slagbaai and Playa Funchi often score well for vibe and water. Wayaka and Playa Benge are quieter and more snorkel- or dive-focused. Playa Chikitu is spectacular to see, but swimming is often discouraged due to strong currents – that belongs on an honest guide, not a marketing list without a warning.

Plan a full morning or day, start early (heat and time), and respect park rules and Nature Fee rules for reef use. BonPlaya community scores (1-10) help, but read reviews: logistics and surge decide whether a park day works.

  4. Playa Benge · Bonaire

A small sandy beach with loose coral stones and strong currents. Mainly a dive site for experienced divers; snorkelling only for strong swimmers in calm seas, swimming is discouraged.

  5. Playa Chikitu · Bonaire

Community score 5.7/10 based on 3 reviews

Beautiful scenery where sea turtles nest, but swimming is prohibited because of dangerous currents. Mainly for looking and photography. On the list for completeness, not as a swimming beach.

Snorkelling outside the park?

West-coast classics like 1000 Steps and Bachelor's are easier by car without a full park day. See the snorkel guide for a wider top list, or the full Bonaire overview with filters.
