Best beaches on Bonaire for families

With kids on Bonaire you do not want to lose a day to steep stairs, strong surge or a beach with zero shade. Best beach here means: safe enough to splash or wade, reachable with gear, and ideally some space to sit. We pick places families actually praise in reviews – not only pretty water for solo snorkellers.

Shallow water is mainly around Lac Bay (Sorobon, Lac Cai) and accessible sand beaches like Te Amo and Eden Beach. Donkey Beach and Pink Beach are quieter but have fewer facilities: bring water, snacks and shade. Washington-Slagbaai park beaches are spectacular but rarely ideal with toddlers (long drive, heat, little service).

Tip: go early (cooler, quieter) and always check the sea conditions. BonPlaya scores are community averages on a 1-10 scale; read critical reviews too – they tell you faster whether a nice beach works with kids.

  1. Te Amo Beach · Bonaire

Community score 7.7/10 based on 3 reviews

Easy access, sand beach, something nearby (food trucks). Snorkelling is fine for curious kids. Expect crowds – go early or embrace the buzz.

  2. Sorobon Beach · Bonaire

Community score 8.0/10 based on 3 reviews

Shallow water is the superpower: wade and play without going deep. Wind can be strong. More activity and people than a quiet paradise – that is why it works with kids.

  3. Lac Cai · Bonaire

Community score 7.7/10 based on 3 reviews

Calmer than Sorobon, warm shallow water, relaxed local feel. Little shade and a rougher track – bring a parasol and water. Turtles are a bonus, not guaranteed.

  4. Eden Beach · Bonaire

Community score 6.7/10 based on 3 reviews

Near Kralendijk: toilets or beach-bar style facilities and easy parking. Not the wildest snorkelling, but practical after a city morning or with jet lag.

  5. Donkey Beach · Bonaire

Community score 8.0/10 based on 3 reviews

Quieter sand if Te Amo feels too busy. Few facilities – self-supply. Good chill afternoon when kids do not need a full programme.

  6. Pink Beach · Bonaire

Community score 6.7/10 based on 3 reviews

Quiet and distinctive (pink tint is subtle). Limited facilities, not a playground beach. Nice short calm stop with older kids; harder with toddlers without shade.

More than family beaches

Older kids who want to snorkel can handle 1000 Steps or Bachelors if they manage the stairs. For the overall top list (not family-only), see our general best-beaches guide. All beaches with filters are on the Bonaire page.
