About this beach
Playa Chikitu is a cove on the windward (east) side of Bonaire, within or reached through Washington Slagbaai National Park. According to Bonaire’s official tourism site, a visit to the park is not complete without a stop here.
Swimming is prohibited here. There are dangerous rip currents and treacherous undertows. Do not go into the water, not even briefly: the surf and current are unpredictable. This is a place to look, not to swim. Whether snorkelling here is ever responsible differs by source; ask at the park and if in doubt stay out of the water.
Sea turtles regularly nest on the beach, so do not walk over nests or markers. According to the tourism site it is also the only place on Bonaire with true sand dunes. The official page lists no facilities; expect none and bring water and shade. The park is open Tuesday to Sunday from 8:00 to 17:00 (last entry 14:30).

Mooi, niet zwemmen
“Mooi om te zien, maar zwemmen raden we af vanwege de stroming. Leuk voor foto's en even zitten. Blijf uit het water als je geen ervaren zwemmer bent.”
