About this beach
Atlantis Beach (Kite Beach) is on the southwest coast and is the only place in Bonaire National Marine Park where kitesurfing is allowed. It is easy to reach by car via the coastal road in the south.
Bonaire lies in the trade wind belt, so there is wind all year, although how steady it is varies by season. The wind is almost always side-onshore. The offshore reef breaks the swell, so the water is calm. The bottom in the kite area is sand, with no coral or rocks, and there are no palm trees or buildings directly behind the beach.
Kite schools on the beach give lessons and rent gear, and you will find shaded spots and cold drinks. Sunscreens containing oxybenzone and octinoxate are not permitted on Bonaire’s beaches. Inside the marine park kitesurfing is only allowed here; outside the park a minimum distance of 75 metres from shore applies. Downwinders need written permission from STINAPA.
